Year 2 Curriculum
Dear Parents,
Firstly a big ‘Welcome Back’ after a long well-earned summer break!! Now that the children are settling back into the normal classroom routine, I would like to take this opportunity to inform you about the work we will cover this term.
P.E. days are on Thursdays, it is important to sent the correct uniform in for these sessions (
Spellings will go home on Fridays to learn for the following Friday and Numeracy / Literacy homework will go home on Fridays to be returned on Monday and put in the ‘Homework’ basket, please remind your child to tick their name on the homework list. Every child will continue to be heard to read individually once a week and in a group during guided reading sessions. Please fill in their reading card when they practise at home and encourage them to read other books, post-cards, pamphlets, newspapers etc when they have finished their reading book.
In Numeracy this term we will cover Numbers to 100 then 1000, Money – using1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, Length – metres and centimetres, 3d shape, fractions, Time and Data Handling. In Science we will look at the impact of forces (pushes and pulls) on things around us and will carry out some investigations! Our topic for this term is ‘Victorian Schools’ and will form the basis for all work covered in Literacy, History, P.E., Art, Music and I.C.T. Swimming will begin on Monday 14th September and will continue for 10 weeks. Children do not have to wear ties on these days and could girls please wear their hair up as this will save time and prevent wet shoulders for the rest of the day!
Library cards are kept in the classroom. Parents are encouraged to choose a new book with their child at either the beginning or end of each day. I have organised a class trip to the ‘
Finally our class assembly will take place on Friday 23rd October at 9.05 in the hall. All parents are welcome to attend.
